Hungry?

Tiger Muay Thai Review
Food
Food in the area is cheap and delicious. Whether you are a vegetarian, steak lover or just love spicy Asian food, there is something for everyone here for prices you won’t believe! I'm talking as low as $1 USD for a plate of Thai chicken and rice (as low as 35 baht)!

Tiger Grill
TMT has it's own restaurant called Tiger Grill. I didn't eat there, as there are plenty of options to eat great food outside camp for much cheaper. TMT offer a meal plan which you can buy ahead of time, but in my opinion it just isn't worth it as you are basically paying extra for food you can get nearby.
For protein shakes however, I would recommend using Tiger Grill's services, as they use international brand protein, as opposed to the places outside camp which use Thai made protein shakes, of which I'm not certain about quality.

Momma's
Momma's is located about a 5 minute walk from TMT, at the Forest Bungalows resort and run by a friendly woman called….Momma. I really enjoyed eating here, as the food is quickly prepared and is ultra cheap. I also like the fact that you can look into the kitchen from your table and see that it's nice and clean inside. The menu is made up from both western and Thai food. The Thai food is much cheaper than the western style food. In my opinion, if you are already in Thailand you might as well enjoy the amazing spices and tastes that they have here (which you may not find back home) and just try all the amazing dishes Mommas has to offer. I really enjoyed the Basil Leaves Chicken and Rice dish, which was spicy and delicious. The Red Beef Curry is great and so is the spicy Thai salad as a side dish (yeah, I love spicy; get the Pad Thai if you like milder tastes). You can also get low calorie meals here (steamed chicken, brown rice, etc) along with protein shakes, protein pancakes and protein oatmeal.

Mommas basically offers all services needed – free Wi-Fi, laundry, massage, motorbike hire, tourist bookings and visa runs. They also have a free book and DVD library, albeit smaller than the one at Tony's.

Tonys
Just down the road, past the turning to Mommas, you will find Tony's. A lot of the fighters eat here so it is constantly busy. You can either choose to have a private table or sit alone or with the other fighters on one long table, enabling you to chat with other people or just make new friends. Tony's also has a small book and dvd library which is free, so you can take a book or dvd and bring it back whenever you please. I found the food to be cheap and tasty with pretty much exactly the same things to order as at Momma's. Tony is a friendly guy who likes to walk around with his tshirt up and his huge belly sticking out, which is quite funny, sort of like a little buddha. I don't know if people rub his belly for good luck before a fight, but maybe they should!

Baan Suai
This place specializes in Hamburgers. The burgers are great! I had a cheeseburger which was delicious, and my friend had a 4 patty burger with cheese, bacon and a fried egg on top which was good too. Definitely the place for burgers. Cheeseburger combo (fries and a coke)cost around 110 Baht. I also saw they advertised themselves as  a sushi joint, however didn’t really notice that fact when eating there.

Floraville
If you are looking for a nice place to sit, Floraville is the choice for you. Most of the places to eat at have cheap plastic furniture, and are not much to look at, however Floraville offers a nice, clean and modern look and feel of a restaurant. Some of the dishes here are slightly higher priced than the other places, but all in all food is still cheap and good (for some reason bottled water here costs double that of other places which I found quite annoying). Floraville specializes in pizza and pasta. I tasted the pizza which was ok, but nothing amazing, and again, I prefer Thai food to junk anyway.

Place offers free Wi-Fi.

Floraville also offers motorbike hire, tourist trips around the island and Koh Phi Phi and Internet and Laundry.

  1. Hey man, great website, really useful info here! I am travelling to Thailand soon and am looking for somewhere to learn Muay Thai (I'm a beginner) and shed some pounds at the same time, so I am considering the tiger camp as an option.. I was wondering if you might be going to write about the accomodation and transport options for Phuket? I remember reading somewhere the accomodation Tiger provide is pricier than what you can get in town.. and that hiring a scooter is probably the best idea for getting around. Would you agree?
Additionally I was wondering are you affiliated to tiger muay thai in any way? Do you receive aNY comission of some sort?

  2. Hi Jonathan,

Im very glad my info might be of use. I am in no way affiliated with TMT, nor do I receive any commission from them or anyone else. I just wrote this blog for fun and thought it might be useful to others.
I will try and address some of the issues you stated. Regarding accomodations: I stayed at the Phuket Siam Hostel http://www.phuketsiamhostel.com/, about 1 minute walk from TMT. It was really good, and not too expensive. I was there during off season, and paid 4000 Baht a week. It is probably a bit more expensive now due to high season, however I think the place is good value for money, as it offers a pool, free wifi, hot water, tv and big bed. The place is brand new basically.
TMT offer rooms for about 5000 a month. The rooms looked reasonable and clean from what I saw, and seemed good for someone on a tight budget, however you are basically living right in the middle of the training camp without any privacy, so I dont know if thats your cup of tea. I also think they are pretty much booked up all the time.
Another place that looked wicked was Floraville, also really close to TMT. I think prices are the same as Siam, as its the same owner.

I wasnt impressed by Forest Bungalows resort as the rooms were kind of old and shabby, and I'm not sure how much cheaper the rooms are there from those at Siam or Floraville. If they are much cheaper then they might be worth checking out.
I didnt check out any other places, however I heard "The One" was really nice, situated close to TMT.
Apart from all these places there are plenty of nice places that offer rooms (Baan suan looks cool too). I arrived at TMT reception at night without having booked a room, and they helped me find a place by showing me a folder with pictures of rooms at different resorts and the prices for each room. I chose Phuket Siam and the owner came and picked me up and took me to my room. I was only planning to stay one night and look at all the other places the next day, however after seeing the room and pool, decided to pay for a week and subsequently spent my whole time there.

Regarding motorbikes: You can get them anywhere for either 150 baht a day or 200. (These are the off season prices, I don't know what they are now, probably the same)
TKO is TMT's motorbike hiring facility and they charge 200 baht a day. I opted to hire a bike for 150 baht from Momma at Momma's restaurant (forest bungalows) because it was cheaper than TKO and because I trusted Momma with my passport (you have to leave it as collateral) and I knew it was locked up in an office at night with a night guard.
You can basically hire a bike at any of the resorts or restaurants next to TMT. You dont actually need a bike though, as everything is in walking distance, However I like to explore a lot and to be as mobile as possible so I hired a bike for my whole duration (Honda click). It also enabled me to drive to the 7-11 whenever I had a fried seaweed craving (yeah i love that shit) and also to the mall (Central Festival Mall) whenever I had a yearning for civilization, and that saved me a lot on cabs.
you can also opt to just hire a bike for your day off and go to the beach. I loved whizzing around the island on a bike, despite rumors of it being very dangerous. A lot of fighters supposedly have accidents. I understod one was in hospital in a coma and that in the past someone lost a leg. Im a safe driver though, so if you are too, get a bike, wear a helmet and take a lot of care and you should be ok.

Thats basically my 2 Baht on accomodation and bike hire.

You are gonna have a great time at Tiger- ENJOY!

  5. Thank you so much for the great information on this blog. I feel attracted to TMT for the same reasons that you did, but I haven't yet pulled the trigger on my trip. I should be there in February, so any other advice you have to give would be much appreciated.

    Thanks again for the blog!

  10. I didn't have any spider problems, however you should buy some good anti-mosquito spray from the local pharmacy, as the mosquitoes come out at about 1700 and bite you while you train. Other than the mosquitoes, didn't meet any other critters
